The new courts will focus on low-level misdemeanants- offering them community service programs in lieu of probation or jail time. The goals of these new courts is to create much needed criminal justice savings, provide better outcomes for the defendants, and to reduce the number of repeat offenders. The San Francisco Chronicle included a piece on the neighborhood courts in today's paper.
